AFTER SIX YEARS JHENÈ AIKO RETURNS WITH NEW ALBUM "WESTSIDE WHIMSY"

Jhené Aiko is officially ending the wait.

Six years after the release of Chilombo, the R&B singer is returning with her fourth studio album, Westside Whimsy, arriving Friday, September 11.

The announcement came just days before the album’s release, giving fans very little time to prepare for the beginning of Jhené’s newest era. She described the 20-track project as “six years in the making” while thanking her supporters for their patience.

Westside Whimsy includes appearances from Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, Tyga, Larry June and OHMA.

One of the most anticipated songs is “So Good,” which reunites Jhené with Kendrick Lamar more than a decade after their previous collaborations. Ab-Soul joins her on “Love Bomb,” Tyga appears on “Like, Whatever,” Larry June assists on “Neighbors” and OHMA closes the album alongside Jhené on “Golden Coast.”

The project is heavily rooted in Jhené’s California identity. She previously revealed that its sound was influenced by ’90s music, West Coast car culture, surfing, beaches and the feeling of taking a road trip through her home state.

Its title may also sound familiar to fans who have been paying close attention. Jhené began introducing the Westside Whimsy name earlier this year through lifestyle and wellness collaborations, quietly laying the foundation for the album before officially confirming it.

A lot has changed within R&B since Chilombo arrived in 2020, but Jhené’s vulnerable writing, airy vocals and emotionally reflective music have continued to influence the genre during her absence.

Now, after six years away from releasing a full-length solo project, she is ready to show listeners where that journey has taken her.

Westside Whimsy will be available across major streaming platforms through Def Jam Recordings and ArtClub.

Are you staying up to hear Jhené Aiko’s long-awaited return?
